Parental practices as family resources that modulate the depressive symptomatology in adolescents
Main Article Content
Abstract
The objective of this research was to determine the modulating effect of parenting practices on adolescent depressive symptoms. 395 students of secondary level participated, 63.3% were female and 36.7% men, mean age of 13.4 years. We used the Parenting Practices Scale, which assesses nine dimensions, five for mom (communication, autonomy, taxation, behavioral control and psychological control) and four for Dad (communication, autonomy, taxation and psychological control), in addition, we used the revised Scale of Depression of the Epidemiologic Studies Center (CESD‐R). For women, the predictors of depressive symptoms were maternal autonomy and psychological control and father’s communication, which accounted for 15% of the variance. For males, were the psychological control of both parents and parental autonomy (23% of variance).
