Thinking of the body: a case study
Main Article Content
Abstract
In the present work it is argued that the lived body is the inconscious psyche presenting itself to perception in the form of the body. The person is a global entity; hence pathology can manifest itself on the plane of the corporeal or the mental, and illness acquires a double meaning: on the
one hand, reestablishment and homeostasis, and on the other hand, denunciation of the imbalance. In addition a reciprocal influence exists between mental and physiological phenomena. In this light we present the case of M., a post-adolescent whose psychosomatic illness was a manifestation of psychological conflicts. In the course of an analysis, her physical symptoms have disappeared and she seems to be showing more control over her body.
