Abstract
Este artículo expone, de manera muy breve, por un lado, la política indigenista en México de 1940 a 1970 en torno a la educación y castellanización de las comunidades indígenas, mostrando la prevalencia de un imaginario racial que considera a los indios como seres atrasados que deben incorporarse a la Nación, matizando su lengua y sus costumbres; y por otro, aclara que la respuesta de los indígenas nunca ha sido pasiva, pues se generaron organizaciones civiles para reclamar sus derechos y revitalizar sus lenguas.
