Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine to what extent depressive symptoms and conflict management strategies have an influence on parenting practices. The sample of 579 participants (321 mothers, age M= 37.1, SD= 6.8 and 258 parents, age M= 40.0, SD= 7.5) from Mexico City was selected by non-random sampling. Three instruments were used; one assessed depressive symptoms, another conflict management strategy, and the other parenting practices. There were two structural models which showed adequate fit indices. The results indicated that parental depressive symptoms and conflict management strategies with the partner influenced parenting practices of both the mother and father, though in different ways.
