Use and enjoyment of the body: Augustinian spiritualism to Lacanian materialism
Main Article Content
Abstract
From the Augustinian point of view, the body has to be used in order to enjoy the spiritual end of eternal life. Psychoanalysis opposes to this point of view and conceives the corporeal enjoyment as the only real enjoyment. But psychoanalysis also recognizes the exclusion of this corporal enjoyment in a language that uses the body through certain symbolic forms of culture, such as Capitalism and Christianity, which articulate abortion’s prohibition. This prohibition would express the exclusion of the corporeal enjoyment. At the same time, it would serve as the guarantor of the system´s reproduction, and therein, of the human species.
