Contributions to the study of elderly abuse from the perspective of family therapy

Abstract
The demand for care and care provided to older adults grows quickly to the extent that this population increases. Due to the lack of institutional and specialized services in México, in most cases these demands are resolved by family, however, there is a risk of abuse or neglect in the treatment provided. The present article is a theoretical analysis on mistreatment of the elderly. Through document review of recent contributions and within the framework of systems thinking, a scheme for understanding the phenomenon as an interactional process within the family system of the elderly is proposed. From the course of systems thinking in which members of the family are permanently and reciprocally influenced, we question the present and future implications for the elderly mistreatment, as well as its intergenerational consequences.
