Psychometric Properties of the Stigmatization of Intimate Partner Violence Scale in Mexican Women
Main Article Content
Abstract
The stigma of intimate partner violence is a complex phenomenon that affects the emotional, social, and economic well-being of victims. The stigma of violence, its influence on recognizing violence, seeking help, and reporting, is an emerging area of research, which makes it necessary to have instruments that allow for its measurement. Based on this, the present research aims to obtain the psychometric properties of the Intimate Partner Violence Stigma Scale (IPVSS) through evidence of internal structure validity and reliability in Mexican women who have experienced violence in any of their intimate relationships. The sample included 165 women, and their participation was voluntary and anonymous. The IPVSS developed with 52 Likert-type items was used, which underwent a translation and back translation process. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were performed, and Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega were calculated.
According to the results obtained, the IPVSS consisted of 32 items grouped into four factors: Anticipated Isolation, Internalized Stigma, Perpetrator Stigma, and Cultural Stigma, with a variance of 58.029%, and Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega of .976. The CFI and TLI results were .90 and the RMSEA was .08, indicating that the IPVSS measures the stigma of intimate partner violence and has adequate psychometric properties in its Spanish version.
