Between rejection and acceptance: voices of delivery drivers regarding the digital platform law in Mexico

Abstract
This research analyzes the perspectives of Uber Eats and Rappi repeaters regarding the discussion and approval of the new law on digital platforms, which for the first time will provide a set of labor rights and formalize the employer obligations of platform companies in 2025. In this context, it reflects on the discrepancies, coincidences, and tensions among workers regarding the potential consequences of this regulatory framework on wages, new obligations, and the loss of "freedom" regarding the choice of working hours. A guide of semi-structured questions was applied to delivery drivers for companies such as Uber Eats and Rappi working in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (AMG), and a digital ethnography was conducted in WhatsApp, Facebook, and YouTube groups around the research axes.The results show that the divergent opinions surrounding the new law stem not only from ideological considerations but also from economic factors associated with income and job retention. The conclusions highlight the need to address the scope, limitations, and contradictions involved in implementing a flexible social security model.
